GRAMMY AWARD WINNING SINGER AND ACTRESS ASHANTI TO PERFORM AT TODAY’S ALBANY RALLY TO END STATEWIDE FAILING SCHOOLS CRISIS
#DontStealPossible

New York, NY – Families for Excellent Schools announced Wednesday that Grammy Award winner Ashanti will perform among 10,000 parents, students, and teachers at this morning’s rally in Albany to end New York’s failing schools crisis. Janelle Monáe was unable to arrive in Albany in time for the rally this morning due to scheduling difficulties.

The #DontStealPossible rally on Wednesday, March 4th will call on state leaders to move beyond bureaucratic tweaks and make bold, structural change to end the crisis. More than 160 schools across New York State are expected to attend, along with parents from traditional NYC public schools.

“As a New York native, I’m proud to stand with 10,000 parents, students, and educators to demand an end to a failing schools crisis that hurts children of color the most,” said Ashanti. “Every child deserves access to an excellent education.”

Born in Glen Cove, Long Island, Ashanti is a renowned singer, songwriter, and actress who has been nominated for Grammy Awards nine times for her breakout R&B hits, many of which topped the Billboard Hot 100 multiple times. She was the first female singer to simultaneously hold the top two spots on the Billboard Top 100, and has subsequently enjoyed a prolific career as an actress in feature film, in theatre, and as an executive producer. Ashanti is an Ambassador to the Boys and Girls Club of America and the Jumpstart reading program.
